The North West Words National Poetry Day Readings feature two Donegal poets: Maureen Curran, who writes in English, and Máire Dinny Wren, who writes in Irish. It showcases two poetic traditions in Donegal. The readings start at 8pm in Florence Food Co. Letterkenny, Co. Donegal and are free of charge.

Máire Dinny Wren was born in Gweedore, Co. Donegal. She writes poetry and fiction. Her work has been broadcast on Raidió na Gaeltachta, Raidió Fáilte and Radio Ulster and published widely including in Comhar, An tUltach, Feasta, Irish Pages, An Gael, Goitse, North West Words Arts Magazine, Winners Anthology 2010 – Writers Week Listowel. Her first collection of poetry Ó Bhile go Bile was published in 2011 (Coiscéim), and her first short story collection, in 2016, Go mBeinnse Choíche Saor (Éabhlóid).

As Gaoth Dobhair don fhile agus gearrscéalaí, Máire Dinny Wren. Tá cnuasach filíochta agus cnuasach gearrscéalta léi foilsithe agus cuid mhaith dá saothar foilsithe sna hirisí Gaeilge. I 2011, d’fhoilsigh Coiscéim a cnuasacht filíochta, Ó Bhile go Bile agus d’fhoilsigh Éabhlóid Go mbeinnse choíche saor, cnuasacht gearrscéalta, i 2016. Tá roinnt duaiseanna buaite aici, ina measc, duais Fhoras na Gaeilge ag Féile Scríbhneoirí Lios Tuathail i 2010 don gearrscéal Ag Téarnamh chun Baile agus duais chomórtas filíochta Uí Néill leis an dán Lúb ar Lár i 2011. Bhí léiriú RTÉ Drama on One den gearrscéal Thar an Tairseach ar an ghearrliosta don dráma raidió is fearr ag an Prix Europa i mBeirlín i 2013.

Maureen Curran grew up in Milford, Donegal where she is a teacher. Her poems have appeared in Boyne Berries, Burning Bush2, Crannóg, Envoi, Poetry Bus, Revival, the Stony Thursday Book, Skylight 47, online at Honest Ulsterman, Lake Poetry, Southword, Spontaneity, and Word Bohemia.
